16 & Pregnant Star Autumn Crittendon’s Cause of Death Revealed 3 Months After She Died at 27
Autumn Crittendon’s cause of death has been confirmed.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, a spokesperson from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the Virigina Department of Health confirmed to PEOPLE that the 16 & Pregnant star died from toxicity from fentanyl and para/meta-fluorofentanyl, which is a synthetic opioid similar to fentanyl. Her manner of death was ruled as accidental.
Crittendon was found dead on Saturday, July 20 when the Henrico County Police Department responded to a medical emergency regarding an unresponsive adult woman. In a statement shared with PEOPLE at the time, police confirmed that paramedics attempted “life-saving measures however they were not effective.”
She was later pronounced “deceased at the scene” and Henrico Police classified the incident as a death investigation. She was 27.
On Sunday, July 21, Crittenfon’s sister, Misty, changed her profile picture on Facebook to a sweet snap of the pair as children, followed by the hashtags: “#JusticeforAutumn #CrittendonStrong.”
The reality star had three children and appeared on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant in season 5. At the time, she was pregnant with her first son Drake.
A few days later, Crittendon’s mother-in-law, Tiffany Oxley, also paid tribute to the reality star with a short but sweet message to her Facebook account.
“I miss you. God has gained another angel way too soon. I love you,” she wrote on July 22.
Oxley was a consistent viewer of Crittendon’s Facebook posts, often commenting on photos of her and her children.
“Look at that amazing lady with her most handsome young men and a beautiful little girl,” she wrote on one image of Crittendon from January 2023.
MTV’s Teen Mom franchise also released a statement on X in her honor. “We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Autumn Crittendon,” it read. “Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”
