Anthony Davis Shares Update on His Recent Eye Injury – Here’s What Fans Need to Know!
Lakers star Anthony Davis says he won’t miss any time due to an eye injury he picked up against the Raptors on Sunday.
“The eye is fine,” he told reporters Tuesday after practice.
Davis was poked in the left eye on Sunday when blocking Jakob Poeltl’s dunk attempt. He instantly fell to the floor and was clearly in pain after the incident. He didn’t return to the game.
But, says he will be ready to go for the Lakers next game against the Grizzlies.
“Nothing happens next,” Davis said. “I go about my days as I would any other day. There’s nothing I need to do. The next step is getting some more sleep and getting ready for tomorrow.”
At practice on Tuesday, there was visible redness and irritation in his eye, but he was adamant the team doctors cleared him to play.
Naturally, the question was raised about him wearing googles like he did briefly in the 2020 bubble, but he is not very keen to do that.
“I don’t want to,” he said. “…I wore goggles. For three years when I was younger. I just don’t want to, to be honest. Obviously, the doctors said I didn’t have to. Now if it gets to a point where a doctor’s orders are to [wear them] … if it gets to that point where my eye doctor tells me that I need to wear them, then of course I will. But I’ve been cleared to go out and play without them.”
Davis has been a shining light for the Lakers to start the season in their 6-4 start. He is averaging the second-most points in the league with 31.2 per game, 10.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 57.7 percent shooting from the field.
LeBron has also been steeping up to the plate in his 22nd season, after recording back-to-back triple-doubles against the Raptors and the 76ers.
