LeBron James has $1.5m-a-year ‘biohacking’ regime that has made NBA legend ‘ageless’
Still going strong in the NBA at 39 years of age, the secret to LeBron James’ longevity has been revealed.
Regarded as arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, the Akron, Ohio, native has won four Most Valuable Player awards, four championships and is the highest scorer in NBA history.
Originally drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2003 draft, James is now in his 22nd NBA season. And a further string to his legacy of longevity was added earlier this season when he and his eldest son, Bronny, became the first father-son duo ever to play together in the NBA after the 20-year-old shooting guard was drafted by the Lakers in the off-season.
Starring alongside Anthony Davis for the Lakers this year, the former Miami Heat forward is averaging an impressive 23.2 points, 8.9 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game despite the fact he will turn 40 next month.
And the key to James’ ability to remain one of the best players in the NBA at his advanced age, as per talkSPORT, is that the basketball icon spends a staggering $1.5m a year on keeping his body in prime shape.
James’ fitness and wellbeing regimen is comprised of three key components.
The first is nutrition. The Lakers star avoids sugar, artificial drinks and fried food and aims to load up on carbohydrates to aid performance.
The second element is preparation. James has en extensive workout routine, which focuses on compound movements such as deadlifts and squats at lower weights but for higher reps, in order to strengthen his body for the rigours of an 82-game NBA season.
He also goes through a lengthy routine of stretching and mobilisation before every game to guard against the potential for muscular injuries.
And the final component of James’ ‘biohacking’ regime is recovery.
The 20-time All-Star utilises ultra-modern recovery practices such as cryotherapy, hyperbaric chambers and light therapy to repair and restore his body after four quarters of bumping, jumping and slamming out on the hardwood.
And the most crucial element of his recovery plan – sleep. James is said to sleep for 10-12 hours a night and will often nap before games.
