Stephen Curry’s Heartfelt Message to Klay Thompson Captures Attention Before Return to Golden State
It will be an emotional night in the Bay Area on Tuesday when Golden State Warriors legend Klay Thompson, who departed this offseason, faces off against his old team for the first time since joining the Dallas Mavericks.
Thompson created an everlasting legacy in Golden State, and emotions have been running high leading up to his return. Drafted by the Warriors in 2011 with the 11th overall pick out of Washington State, nobody could have predicted the incredible impact he would have alongside his partner in crime and fellow Splash Brother, Stephen Curry.
Ahead of his return to face Curry and the Warriors, Curry and the rest of the Warriors roster released heartfelt and personal messages. Steph’s words, in particular, resonated the most, given all they’ve been through together.
“It was an honor to play with you for 13 years,” Curry said. “Always remember every memory we created as teammates and as the Splash Brothers. I hope you get the hero’s welcome you deserve.”
The third member of the trio, Draymond Green, added, “Welcome back home, brother. Well deserved. Take your flowers because you earned every single one of them-and then some. Love you, brotha! My dog!”
“Welcome back home, brother.”
Thirteen years of remarkable accomplishments and unforgettable memories. Klay Thompson was part of something rare-a dynasty-and he was a crucial part of it every step of the way.
During his tenure with the Warriors, Thompson helped lead the team to four championships, all within an eight-year span. He is a four-time All-Star, a two-time All-NBA player, and an Olympic gold medalist.
Thompson has solidified his legacy as one of the greatest shooters of all time, continuously adding to his list of accolades. He currently ranks sixth all-time in NBA three-pointers made with 2,510 and counting. He also ranks sixth in all-time three-point percentage at 41.2%.
As great as Thompson’s shooting has been, it often got overshadowed by his teammate, the greatest shooter of all time, Stephen Curry, who holds the top spot in nearly every three-point statistical category, including the most field goals made from beyond the arc.
Nevertheless, Thompson has more than earned his place in Warriors’ lore and is deserving of a statue in the Bay Area once he decides to retire. However, his journey isn’t over. After all the challenges he’s faced in his career, Thompson still has plenty left to give-now as a member of the Mavericks, a team with NBA Championship aspirations after falling short in last season’s Finals.
