Victor Wembanyama Shares Decisive 5-Word Statement on Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic
Friday night’s matchup between the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs was a battle of the superstar big men as Nikola Jokić and Victor Wembanyama faced off against each other.
Both players dominated the game, but Wembanyama’s Spurs got the best of Jokić and the Nuggets winning the matchup 113-110. Wembanyama recorded 35 points and 18 rebounds while knocking down four three-pointers despite being in foul trouble for the Spurs. Jokić had a dominant game himself, recording 41 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists.

The battle between the star big men was a good one, and Wembanyama praised Jokić in a postgame interview.
“Multiple time MVP, soon to be MVP again,” Wembanyama said about Jokić. “Can’t ask for a better way to get better myself. We’re all learning a lot.”
Wembanyama made a bold statement, calling Jokić the soon to be MVP this season, but for good reason. Jokić is currently the frontrunner to win his fourth MVP award this season.
The 29-year-old superstar is putting together arguably the best season of his already incredible career. He is averaging 31.0 points, 13.2 rebounds and 9.7 assists per game while shooting 55.3% from the field and an NBA-best 47.9% from three.
Wembanyama also mentioned that playing against Jokić is a way for himself to get better as a player and that he and the team are learning a lot when matched up against Jokić and the Nuggets. Of course, Wembanyama is only in his second season in the NBA, so continuing to become a better player is something that he and the Spurs need him to do, and there is no better way to do so than matching up against arguably the best player in the world right now.
Both the Spurs and Nuggets will face off against each other again Saturday night in San Antonio and it should be another electric matchup between two of the best big men in the NBA.
